The antenna characteristics are
the half power beam width
in the vertical plane and the horizontal plane.
These data are given as 2 angles.
The GSM antennas (long rectangular shape) ensures to transfer data between the cell phone and the network. Their beam is wide and plane, like a plate.

Their horizontal opening angle is currently 60°, and the vertical opening angle is 6,5°. Three antennas are set on the top of a tower. The towers are set on an hexagonal grid.

A limited number of communications can be transfered by one antenna. In urban areas, the number of antennas is due to communication number. But in country side, the purpose is to complete the coverage with a small number of communications.
